Wedding Coverage Guide

How to choose your wedding photography coverage

Two hours, half a day or full-day coverage can all be right. The decision depends on which parts of the wedding you want documented, how far apart they are and whether film is part of the story.

Start with moments, not hours

Ask what you would be disappointed not to have photographed

Coverage becomes easier to choose when you stop looking at the number of hours and list the moments that matter: preparation, ceremony, family groups, couple portraits, speeches, first dance, traditions, reception atmosphere and film.

The examples below follow the current Indo Irish Photography wedding packages so that the article stays connected to the service you can actually book. Prices and package details can change, so the wedding and pricing pages remain the final source before booking.

Reception

Choose 2 hours when the wedding itself is compact

This works for a registry or short ceremony where the important photographs are the ceremony, a small number of family groups and couple portraits nearby. It stops working when travel, multiple locations or a large family list are added.

Choose 6 hours when you want the story to start before the ceremony

Half-day coverage gives room for preparation, ceremony and speeches in the current package, with a photographer and videographer. It suits a shorter single-day wedding where the evening party is not the priority.

Choose full day when the transitions matter

Full-day coverage is not just “more photos”. It gives the team time to cover preparation, ceremony, family, portraits, reception atmosphere and later moments without forcing everything into one compressed block.

Choose complete when the celebration has more layers

Large cultural weddings, extra rituals, a dedicated outdoor couple shoot or multi-day elements create more simultaneous moments and more video work. That is where a larger team and extended film become useful rather than excessive.

Five questions

Decide with the timeline in front of you

  • Do you want preparation photographed, or only the ceremony onward?
  • How much travel is there between preparation, ceremony, portraits and reception?
  • Are speeches, first dance and evening atmosphere important to you?
  • Do important rituals happen at the same time in different places?
  • Do you want a short highlight film, a longer traditional film, or photographs only?
