Family photography Dublin — a family portrait session
Family Photography · Dublin & Ireland

Family photography, the way your family really is

The ages they are today, the way they laugh with each other right now — these change faster than you expect. We photograph your family as they genuinely are, in a relaxed session at a Dublin location or somewhere that means something to you.

Our approach

Real moments, not stiff poses

We do not believe in lining everyone up and saying “say cheese.” We spend a few minutes warming up, let the children lead, and photograph the genuine interactions that happen in between — the whispers, the piggybacks, the moments nobody planned. The result is a set of images that actually looks like your family, not a stock-photo version of one.

We are Gopi and Pravalika, a Dublin-based husband-and-wife team. On larger family sessions we work together, which keeps things relaxed for everyone — including the youngest and the grandparents. If you are expecting, or have a new baby, see our newborn and maternity pages too.

Family portrait session, Dublin

An unhurried hour or two — in a Dublin park, along the coast, at a favourite landmark, or in the comfort of your own home.

Planning your session

A little planning goes a long way

Here is what we usually talk through with families beforehand, so the session runs smoothly and everyone enjoys it.

Preparing children

No need to promise best behaviour — we work with children as they are. A fed, rested child is a happy one, so we plan the time around naps and meals. Bring a favourite toy or snack for little ones, and let us do the coaxing.

What to wear

Coordinate rather than match. Choose colours that complement each other — earth tones and soft neutrals photograph beautifully — and dress everyone in something they are genuinely comfortable in. Traditional and Indian outfits look wonderful outdoors too. We send a full wardrobe guide when you book.

Timing and light

For outdoor sessions the hour before sunset gives the softest, warmest light. In summer that is late evening, in autumn late afternoon. For young children we can also shoot earlier in the day when they are at their brightest.

Group combinations

Tell us the groupings that matter — everyone together, the children on their own, each parent with the kids, the grandparents with the grandchildren. We plan these in advance so nothing is forgotten on the day.

Choosing a location

Pick somewhere with meaning for your family, or let us suggest a Dublin spot to suit the feel you want. If it is a place we have not photographed before, we will look at it in advance.

Weather in Ireland

Irish weather changes quickly, so we keep a flexible eye on the forecast and have a backup plan. A bright, cloudy sky is often ideal for portraits, and we can move the date if conditions are genuinely against us.

Where we photograph

Your favourite Dublin spots

We will go wherever means most to your family, or suggest one of our tried-and-tested Dublin locations.

Parks & woodlands

Phoenix Park, Marlay Park, St Anne’s Park — open space, natural light, and room for children to run.

Coast & beach

Howth, Portmarnock, Bray — dramatic coastline backdrops that always photograph beautifully.

Your own home

Where children are most relaxed and genuinely themselves. Morning light at home produces some of our favourite family images.

Dublin city & landmarks

The city centre, Dublin Bay and its harbours, and well-known landmarks make characterful backdrops for a family walk-and-photograph.

Every stage

The families we love photographing

From the very newest arrivals to four generations in one frame, every family session is built around the people in it.

Young children & toddlers

The wobbly walks, the belly laughs, the little personalities emerging. We follow their lead rather than fight it, and the honest moments are always the best.

Grandparents & extended family

When grandparents are visiting — often from abroad — a session is a lovely way to mark the time together. We make sure everyone is comfortable and included.

Milestones & reunions

A big birthday, an anniversary, a new home, or simply the whole family in one place for once. Tell us what you are marking and we will build the session around it.

Every family is welcome

Multi-generational & cross-cultural families

Families come in every shape. Some of ours have grandparents visiting from abroad, extended relatives joining the frame, or two cultures woven together under one roof. As a Dublin team who work with Indian and Irish families every week, we understand how to make a session comfortable for everyone — culturally, linguistically and logistically.

However your family is made up, our job is the same: to make sure everyone feels at ease in front of the camera, and to give you photographs that feel true to who you all are.

Questions

Family session FAQs

This is genuinely our most common question, and honestly it is not a problem. Children who are “uncooperative” often produce our favourite images. We do not force poses; we follow the child’s lead, give them time to settle, and capture what naturally happens. A parent gently coaxing a toddler is half the story of that age, and it is beautiful.

Standard sessions include up to 6 people. For larger extended-family groups — grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins — we run extended sessions with a higher headcount. Get in touch and we will quote based on your group size and what you have in mind.

Absolutely — pets are part of the family too. For outdoor sessions, dogs are always welcome. Just let us know in advance so we can plan around them and keep everyone relaxed.

Autumn, from September to November, is our busiest season for a reason — the light is extraordinary and the trees add colour. Spring, around April and May, is also lovely. That said, we photograph year-round and embrace Irish weather: overcast days give beautifully even, soft light that is perfect for portraits.

Yes. Many families prefer a session at home, especially with very young children who are most relaxed in their own space. Morning light through the windows is lovely, and we can move between rooms and the garden. Just mention it when you book so we plan the timing around the light.

We do — we photograph families right across Ireland. Travel within Dublin is included; Kildare, Meath and Wicklow carry a small travel fee, and other counties a little more. We always quote travel clearly before you book.

They grow so fast

Capture your family as they are today

Next year they will look different. The year after, even more so. Plan a session now and hold onto this exact moment.
