Newborn Session Guide

How to prepare for a newborn session

A simple guide for new parents: when to book, what to bring, what to wear and what actually happens in our warm, baby-led home-studio in Clondalkin.

Calm, warm and baby-led

You do not need to “prepare” your baby to perform

The useful preparation is practical: arrive with what your baby normally needs, allow enough time, and do not worry if feeding, settling or changing takes longer than expected.

Every newborn session at Indo Irish Photography is led personally by Pravalika Talari, who specialises in safe newborn posing and handling. Sessions take place in our dedicated home-studio in Clondalkin, Seven Mills. Parking near the house can be limited, so let us know when you are on your way — Gopi or Pravalika will help you find a space close by.

Before baby arrives

Book the space, then confirm the exact date later

The ideal newborn window on our current service is days 5–14, when babies often sleep deeply and naturally curl into classic newborn positions. Booking during pregnancy lets us hold availability; the exact session date can be confirmed after the baby arrives.

If your baby is older

Do not assume you have missed the opportunity. Sessions up to around four weeks can still be possible; the posing and pace may simply be adjusted to the baby.

What to bring

Keep the bag familiar

  • Your normal feeding supplies if bottle feeding
  • Nappies and wipes
  • A spare outfit for baby
  • A spare top for a parent — accidents happen
  • A dummy/pacifier only if your baby already uses one
  • Any small sentimental item you want us to consider including
  • Simple outfits for siblings if they are being photographed
  • Anything your baby normally needs to settle

Do not change feeding or sleeping routines just to try to make the baby sleep for photographs. We work around the baby’s cues.

What to wear

Simple clothing keeps attention on the baby

Parents

Neutral, plain clothing photographs well and keeps the focus on faces and connection. Cream, beige, soft grey, muted green, white and simple darker tones are easy to coordinate.

Siblings

Avoid large logos and very busy patterns. If possible, bring siblings at the start so we can make the family photographs first and then let them relax.

During the session

Feeding and settling are part of the session

The studio is kept warm and the session is not run against a hard deadline. Pravalika follows feeding and settling cues, uses safe posing and never forces a position that compromises comfort or safety.

If baby will not sleep

That is normal. We can photograph awake expressions, pause for feeding, settle again or change the plan. The session does not fail because a newborn is awake.

If baby is unwell

Contact us before travelling and we can decide the sensible next step. A photography appointment is never more important than the baby’s wellbeing.
