Cultural & religious event photography
Ceremonies and celebrations carry layers of meaning a photographer unfamiliar with them can easily miss. We prepare properly, arrive knowing the flow, and photograph the day with care — for families of many communities and faiths across Dublin and Ireland.
Prepared, respectful, unobtrusive
The best cultural photography does not interrupt a ceremony — it honours it. We take the time to understand the sequence and the significance beforehand, so on the day we are positioned before a ritual begins rather than reacting after it has happened. We know when to be still and when to move, and which moments cannot be repeated.
We are Gopi and Pravalika, a Dublin-based husband-and-wife team who work with Indian and Irish families every week. We bring genuine, first-hand familiarity with a wide range of ceremonies — and where a tradition is new to us, we ask, listen and prepare so that we do it justice.
Celebrations across many communities
Below are traditions we photograph often. It is not an exhaustive list — if your celebration is not here, tell us about it and we will prepare for it just as carefully.
Indian ceremonies & festivals
Naming ceremonies (Nāmakaraṇa)
The puja, the whispered name and the gathering of elders. We understand the flow and capture each part as it unfolds.
Annaprasana
The rice-feeding ceremony — a baby’s first taste of solid food. An intimate family moment that deserves careful, respectful coverage.
Mundan / Chudakarana
The first head-shaving ceremony — emotional and sacred. We document the preparation, the ritual and the reactions of the family around the child.
Grihapravesh
The housewarming puja — from the Ganesh prayer and milk-boiling to the first step across the threshold. See also our housewarming page.
Mehendi, Sangeet & Haldi
The colour, music and joy of the pre-wedding celebrations — henna, songs and dancing, photographed with energy and warmth. See our dedicated Haldi page.
Upanayana & pujas
Thread ceremonies, Satyanarayan and other blessing and thanksgiving pujas — the quiet, devotional moments that are often the most visually rich.
Diwali & Holi
Festival gatherings at home or in the community — the lamps and rangoli of Diwali, the colour of Holi, and the families celebrating together.
Community & temple events
Larger community and temple celebrations, documented with respect for the space and the customs of the occasion.
Christian & Irish milestones
First Holy Communion
Church ceremony, family portraits and the celebration that follows — coverage that captures both the occasion and the family gathering.
Confirmation
A milestone for the whole family — we cover the ceremony and the celebration with portraits that will last a lifetime.
Baptism & Christening
Gentle, unobtrusive coverage of the ceremony and family portraits — photography that does not disrupt this quiet, meaningful occasion.
We welcome families of every community, culture and faith. If your celebration follows customs we have not photographed before, we will ask about them in advance so we arrive fully prepared.
From the opening prayer to the final blessing — every ritual, and the family around it, remembered.

A pre-ceremony conversation
Before the day, we have a short call to go through the order of events. Who is leading the ceremony? What sequence do the rituals follow? Which moments matter most to your family, and who are the key people we must be sure to photograph? This preparation means we arrive already knowing what is about to happen.

Cultural event FAQs
Not at all. We have deep experience with Indian ceremonies and festivals, and we also photograph Christian and Irish milestones such as christenings, Communions and Confirmations, as well as celebrations from other communities. We welcome families of every culture and faith — if your tradition is not one we list, tell us and we will prepare for it carefully.
Yes. We bring genuine, first-hand familiarity with the sequencing of many ceremonies and the visual moments within each. Where a ceremony follows customs that are new to us, we ask about them in our pre-ceremony conversation, so you will not need to direct us on the day.
We have direct experience with South Indian and North Indian traditions and a broad familiarity with regional variations. If your ceremony follows specific regional or community customs, we will go through them in advance so we are fully prepared.
Ceremonies rarely run exactly to time, and we plan for it. We build flexibility into our coverage and stay through the key moments regardless of how the timing shifts. If a ceremony extends significantly beyond the booked time, additional hours are €50/hr.
Yes, and we always plan for it. After the ceremony, while everyone is dressed beautifully and the energy is high, we do a round of family group portraits. Multi-generational portraits with grandparents, cousins and the full extended family are a regular part of our cultural event coverage.
Absolutely. Many families we work with celebrate across two cultures, sometimes on the same day. We are equally comfortable covering a First Communion and an Annaprasana, and we will plan the day so nothing important is missed.
